Here, the function of the doctrine of the Spirit is to show that God is complete in himself, as the particular kind of God we worship: the perfecting cause in respect of God’s eternal being as well as of his creation. First, there is an eternal communion of love that we call the triune God. The Spirit perfects the divine communion by being the dynamic of the Father’s and Son’s being who they distinctly are.
